Programs & Services
We provide each member system annually with safety visits, including at a minimum:
- Nine operations safety visits lasting up to four hours in meeting format and up to four hours of compliance or crew inspection
- Three office safety visits lasting a minimum of one hour
- At systems request, a maximum of six (6) crew inspection per year with documentation provided to the system
Programs
Safety & Loss Control offers the following programs to enhance the safety of your cooperative. Services are not limited to those on list.
- Monitor & Coordinate the OAEC Mutual Assistance program 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Immediate Accident investigation with documentation if asked for by the member system
- Update and maintain a library of curriculum materials, equipment, and informational supplies to enhance the S & LC program
- Provide a clearinghouse of services for regulatory and safety issues
- Provide intensive support throughout the NRECA Safety achievement process, including the required safety improvement plan
- Administer the Northwest Lineman College Program and be the liaison to the U.S. Department of Labor for those member systems that want their Certification of Apprenticeship
- Provide Electrical Testing for Protective Grounding Equipment and Vehicle Grounds
- Provide Electrical Testing for “Live Line Tools”
- Provide community safety programs for Firefighters, Emergency Workers, Schools and Civic groups
- Assist systems who are required to conduct annual table top Emergency Planning Exercises to meet RUS requirements
- Offer formal certification for operators for digger derrick
- Conduct Safety Audits of any and all facilities
- Conduct Audits of any and all in house Safety Programs
- Fork Lift Training (charges for course materials only)
- CPR and First Aid Training (charge for course materials only)
- Compliance Training including PCB record keeping, OSHA 300 log recording, DOT Truck inspection documentation and recording, etc
Services
Each System Manager/CEO will be provided a written copy of all subjects covered and an explanation of the topic within one week following the safety meeting(s).
All programs on this page are included in the S & LC dues.

- Pole Top Rescue
- Crew inspections and/or facilities inspections
- Near miss discussions
- Outage and storm safety
- Fall protection
- Underground safety training
- Any other safety related topic as requested by member system
Office Safety may include the following:
- Ergonomics
- Mayday response training
- Office hazard recognition
- Avoiding slips, trips and falls
- Stress Management
- Eye strain
- Proper lifting techniques
- Blood borne pathogen training
- Any other safety related topic as requested by member
