RE:MEMBER
Membership is what makes electric cooperatives different. You’re not a customer. You’re a member-owner of a local organization built to serve you and your community. That means your voice matters, your dollars stay local and any margins can be returned to you as a member through capital credits.
RE:MEMBER what makes your cooperative unique: it’s your co-op, and you’re part of what powers it.
While being a “member” and “customer” might sound like the same thing, they’re not. The difference is more than just semantics. It’s a mindset.
Being a “customer” is passive: you pay a bill, get a service and the relationship ends there. But being a member is active. It’s about participating in something bigger than yourself.

Co-op Principles
ADVOCATE
Advocating for electric cooperatives helps ensure the voices of locally owned, member-driven utilities are heard by policymakers. By building relationships with elected officials and sharing the real impact of cooperative programs, infrastructure investments, and reliable service, advocates help shape policies that strengthen rural communities, support economic growth, and keep electricity affordable and dependable for the members who own the cooperative. Learn more about co-op advocacy.
VOTE & PARTICIPATE
Being an active electric cooperative member means taking part in the decisions that shape your cooperative’s future. By attending annual meetings, voting in board elections, and staying informed, members help ensure their cooperative remains locally governed, responsive to community needs, and focused on providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric service.
