Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives General Manager Announces March 2025 Retirement

Chris Meyers, general manager for the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives (OAEC) recently announced his March 2025 retirement to the OAEC Board of Trustees.

Meyers has served as general manager and executive vice-president of the association since February 2010 and has enjoyed a rewarding 15-year career with the electric cooperatives of Oklahoma.

“During his tenure, Chris has displayed sound leadership and an extraordinary ability to lead with wisdom, compassion and care. He has become a friend to many and he will be dearly missed. We wish him the very best on his well-earned retirement,” said Bob Usry, president of the OAEC Board of Trustees and Norman-based Oklahoma Electric Cooperative director.

Meyers holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Kansas State University and an MBA from the University of Oklahoma. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Oklahoma and began his career in the electric utility industry in 1985. In his 40-year career, he has held positions in utility operations, sales and marketing, government affairs and executive leadership.

“Being selected to serve in the electric cooperative industry 15 years ago was a privilege. Growing up in a rural area, the impact of rural electrification resonated with me. I believe the cooperative business model is effective and honorable,” Meyers said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a contributor in the electric cooperative family. This is an industry that truly makes a positive difference in the lives of those they serve. I will miss the people the most and will take treasured memories with me.”

During Meyers’ tenure, OAEC had numerous legislative wins furthering the cooperative mission across Oklahoma. He successfully led a number of initiatives on behalf of the state’s 30 electric cooperatives including state legislative lobbying and bill tracking, safety and loss control programs, a self-insured worker’s comp fund, statewide training of co-op employees and board members, and publication of Oklahoma Living magazine which reaches more than 360,000 homes and businesses each month.

Under Meyers’ leadership, the OAEC Board of Trustees established the Oklahoma Touchstone Energy Disaster Relief Fund and the Oklahoma Energy Trails Foundation.

The OAEC Board of Trustees has selected GreatCo-ops to lead a national search for the next general manager and executive vice president of the association.
