Home for the holidays

Family, food and football can make the holidays special.  The holidays are a time when family who may have not seen each other all year get together and share a meal. Don’t worry about gaining a few pounds, you can make that New Year’s resolution to start exercising, so go ahead and get an extra helping of dressing — I know I will.

Some of my favorite memories are wrapping Christmas gifts that have to be assembled, often turning into a late night Christmas Eve activity. Oh what fun we have the next morning watching our children and grandchildren open their gifts.

Growing up, we did not stand in long lines hours before a store opening or participate in Black Friday, Cyber Monday or online shopping.  However, I do appreciate the advantage of purchasing gifts now from the comfort of my home.

Electric co-ops work to improve the quality of life in our rural and suburban communities. We do this through the delivery of safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable energy, but also through efforts in education and community development. I encourage you to shop local at businesses in your area. I know I enjoy knowing my dollars are spent supporting families like mine and helping make their holidays happy.

As your family and millions of people gather to celebrate the birth of Christ, your co-op family wishes you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and safe travels.
