The Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives (OAEC) has been made aware that consumer-members from at least 11 electric cooperatives in Oklahoma have received a mailer from OG&E that offers an optional protection plan through HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp. The mailer contains the OG&E logo and explains that the utility partnered with this service to provide home electrical service hardware repair options for OG&E customers.
We have learned that the mailer was mistakenly sent to zip codes impacted by the recent October 2020 ice storm, instead of targeting OG&E customers only. This mistake has brought confusion to co-op members throughout the state who were concerned that their power provider was changing. Several cooperatives have fielded multiple calls from members since the first mailer was received on November 10, 2020.
Officials from OAEC have been in communication with OG&E regarding this unfortunate oversight. OG&E has communicated to co-op officials that they recognize the mailer was sent out to all zip codes as a mistake and they regret the situation.
Oklahoma’s electric cooperatives urge co-op members who received this mailer to be assured that your power provider is not changing. Electric cooperatives are consumer-owned, community-driven, and member-benefitting. Co-ops are rooted in the communities they serve and remain steadfast in their mission to provide safe, reliable and affordable power to every consumer-member.
